Alain’s Healthy Salad Dressing

Recipe type: Sauces
Author: Alain Braux
Prep time: 15 mins
Total time: 15 mins
Serves: 30
This is not a magic potion – like the one of Asterix and Obelix comic book fame (the fans will know what I’m talking about) – but pretty darn close. It is loaded with only ingredients known to help keep your heart healthy. Nothing but heart-healthy ingredients!
Ingredients
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon or lime juice
  • 4 cloves of fresh garlic, peeled and sliced
  • 1-2″ piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 3 Tbsp Dijon-style mustard
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup of flax seed oil for an extra boost of omega 3 fatty acids
  • 2 Tbsp Bragg’s Liquid Aminos
Instructions
  1. Place the first 6 ingredients in the blender. Blend at high speed until garlic and ginger are well processed.
  2. Meanwhile, measure olive oil and flax seed in the same measuring cup.
  3. Through the hole in the blender’s lid, pour the oil slowly into the above mix until it’s fully absorbed.
  4. If you want an additional burst of amino acids and additional flavor, add the Bragg’s liquid aminos.
  5. Note: If you find this dressing a little too acid (I love it that way) you can change the acid to oil proportions from 1:2 to 1:3.
  6. That is 1 cup of acid (vinegar or lemon juice) to 3 cups of oil blend (for example, 2 cups Olive oil and 1 cup Flax Seed oil).
Notes

Chef’s tip: I prepare this size recipe and store it in the refrigerator in a squeeze bottle. That way, when I want to put together a quick salad, I just place some salad on a plate, shake the bottle of dressing and squeeze some of it on top of your salad. Voila!

    Hello Alain,

Happy New Year to you and your family. My you continue with excellent health and prosperity, throughout 2012.
I am located in South Australia and have no difficulty obtaining the ingredients for your Healthy Salad Dressing, with the exception of ” Bragg’s Liquid Aminos”. Is this ingredient only available in Texas?

    Cheers for now,

    Frank

    HI Frank,

all my best wishes to you and your family! :)

Bragg’s is sold worldwide, for instance at Walmart, Amazon, and many other offline and online retailers. Since I’m not familiar with the Australian market, I recommend that you search on Google for stores in your area. You may also consult with your local health food store.

    Best regards,
    Alain

is butter good for you

Is Butter Good For You?

The good news is that, if you’re willing, you can make your own butter. Buy organic heavy cream. Mix it with the same probiotic culture used to make yogurt. Let it sit at room temperature for 24 hours to allow for fermentation. Refrigerate overnight. Whisk it until it turns into butter. With a cheesecloth, drain the buttermilk (or save it for other uses) and voila! You have made your own homemade butter. It is called cultured butter. Here again, the secret is moderation. 1 to 2 pats of real butter a day will do you good.
